Planning Your First Camping Trip

There is something so exciting about knowing that you will be going on a camping trip for the first time. It is such a fun experience and it is one that you will remember for the rest of your life. A lot of people get lucky and get to go on camping trips when they are very young. Perhaps you did not have those opportunities. A great way to experience the outdoors is by going when you are older, whether you are going on your own or you go with some friends. It is a once in a lifetime experience that you may want to repeat as you will have so much fun!

Before you do anything else, you will want to pick a great site for camping. We believe that you will be very happy with Lake Ray Roberts as a possible destination. It is a state park in Texas that is the perfect place for your first camping weekend. If you are within driving distance, we recommend that you bookmark that as your ideal choice. You can go during the spring, summer and autumn, even if it is close to winter.

The only downside to Ray Roberts State Park is that it can get a bit hot in the summer. But so long as you pack a cooler with some drinks, it can still be a lot of fun. You will have ice cold beers and soda that you can enjoy when you are feeling thirsty or hot. Just make sure you have enough water so you are not dehydrated!

Packing for Camping

If you have never been on a camping trip in the past, you will want to buy the appropriate gear. For camping, it includes having a tent, sleeping bags, bug spray, outdoor clothing and shoes, accessories like a knife and a fire starting kit, a water filter and bottle, and other appropriate gear.

It is key to buy these items a week in advance. You want enough time for the items to be at your house so that you can assess them and make sure they will do the job. Buying items at the last minute is never a good idea. If the first time you open up your tent is at the camp site, you could be in for some unpleasantness!

Handling Your Trip

One of the hardest parts about camping for the first time is realizing that you are in the great outdoors with nowhere else to go! There is no doubt that it can feel like an unpleasant experience. What you will want to do is make sure that you are mentally prepared for this possibility.

Most camp sites will have other people in the area. If you go to Lake Ray Roberts, you will feel comfortable knowing plenty of other people and families are camping there as well. You can even check out some of the activities in the area, such as hiking, sightseeing, going to a water park and boating. You can even fish if you are into that activity!

Just make sure that you plan it all out. The worst mistake that you can make in such a situation is to think that you will figure out what you want to do at the last minute. It is always best to have a plan and to take the gear that you need for those activities. It will ensure that your trip goes smoothly. If you are not fully prepared, you will have a worse experience.
